The Carnival of Venice which is pronounced in Italy as Carnevale di Venezia, is an annual festival held in Venice, Italy. The Carnival ends with the Christian celebration of Lent, forty days before Easter, on Shrove Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday. This festival is well known for its elaborate mask.
During this festival, there are different types of masks, ranging from Bauta, Colombina, Volto, Moretta, Medico della peste- which is the Plague doctor, Pantalone to Zanni. The mask has always been an important feature of the Venetian festival, allowing people to spend a large portion of the year in disguise.
