South Ethiopia and Oma Valley Photo Tour
Ethiopia Photo Tour is an extraordinary South Ethiopia and Oma Valley Photo Tour expedition. You will photograph the little known vanishing tribes of Southern Ethiopia, and bear witness to many colorful markets besides the beautiful Landscape. The photographic tour starts south with an expedition to the valley of the Omo River, undoubtedly one of the wildest and unexplored regions of Africa. The Mursi, Hamer, Karo, Surmi, Konso, and Dassenach are only some of the tribes still living and preserving their age-old customs.
Day 1 – Arrive Addis Ababa
Airport and transfer to your Hotel. Most flights arrive around midnight from 9/10 March so we included one extra night to get rest from traveling. Overnight in Addis Ababa – The Mosaic Hotel
Day 2 – Addis Ababa
Today we get enough time to wandering around in the town. we can do street photography and capture the amazing Cathedral. In the evening we start our tour with our welcome dinner. Overnight in Addis Ababa – The Mosaic Hotel
Day 3 – Arba Minch
Today you will fly to Arba Minch from Addis Ababa Airport departure time will be 1 pm in the middle of the day the flight takes 45 minutes, then transfer to your Lodge and overnight in Paradise Lodge where we stay 3 nights.
Day 4 – Arba Minch – Lake Chamo – Arba Minch
Full day Arbaminch to visit Netchsar National park which protects varsities of savannah habitats,(Zebras and gazelles) ranging from the knotted acacia scrub on the bridge of wide scenery. Once across the bridge, there are sweeping views over the plains to majestic volcanic hills on the eastern boundary. After lunch drive for a boat ride (5-6 Hours) on Lake Chamo to enjoy the most spectacular scenery of the lake and see the largest crocodile, species which riches until 6-meter length / Crocodile Market/ of the African continent as well as birds species. Overnight at the Paradise Lodge.
Day 5 – Arba Minch – Dorze – Arba Minch
In the morning after breakfast proceed to Dorze, in order to visit the Dorze village who set in the highland above Arba Minch. The Dorze people are known for their tall beehive-like houses and the fine cotton weaving. You will visit the village and learn about the daily lives of these industrious people. The Dorze people belong to one of the Omotic groups in the South West of Ethiopia. They are a hard-working tribe renowned for their skill in weaving, bamboo carpentry, and other traditional crafts. Then after the visit continue to drive back to Arba Minch. Overnight at Paradise Lodge.
Day 6 – Arba Minch – Konso – Jinka
In the morning we will drive to Jinka via Konso. The Konso people are known for their wooden statues, known as wakas, which are erected in honor of dead heroes as well as their innovative agricultural terracing You will visit there village for 1- 2 hours. Overnight in Jinka at Eco Omo Lodge.
Day 7 – Jinka – Mursi – Jinka
Early In the morning we head to the unique tribe of Mursi ( The women are famous for putting clay made circular lip and ear plates which symbolizes beauty in honor ) crossing through Mago National Park in order to reach their village. We will visit the uninterrupted authentic daily life activities then. After visiting back to Jinka overnight in Jinka at Eco Omo Lodge.
Day 8 – Jinka – Dimeka – Turmi
Today is a market day in Aliduba villages which is one of the most colorful markets in the area and is visited by many tribes, including Hamer, Banna and Ari, and Tsemay. Afterward, continue to Turmi. Overnight at Buska Lodge. This is another big Highlight of our Ethiopia Photo Tour.
Day 9 – Turmi – Omorate – Turmi
In the morning, take a day trip to Omorate to visit the Dassenech tribe. Here you will cross the Omo River by local boat and enter at Dassenech village. Afterward back to Turmi in the afternoon we will go for a visit to a local Hamer village. If there is Jumping of the Bulls traditional Hamer coming-of-age ceremony, that will be visited (optional) Overnight in Buska Lodge.
Day 10 – Turmi – Karo
On this day we will drive to Karo to visit the Karo tribes famous tribes in the south Omo zone with their body painting and are ferrous warrior men. The Karo tribe uses red ochre and white chalk to create intricate designs on their faces and bodies and although they live in a world far removed from urban life, its the same for women of the Karo tribe in Ethiopia. Overnight in Omo National Park through camping where we will have an excellent cook.with us and a well-organized team with complete and clean camping gears enough for all.
Day 11 – Omo Park – Kibish – Surma
In the morning we drive to Kibish through Omo National Park as to visit the list visited Surma ( Suri ) tribes accessing them deep into their villages and this will be an unforgettable experience for any traveler and you as well as your team will love this experience. Overnight through camping in Kibish.
Day 12 – Around Kibish – Surma
In the morning visiting a number of untouched Surma villages where we will make some drive to get to know the tribe’s morning life activities without any interruption to their normal life but witnessing wonderful and genuine activities up to their doorsteps. Overnight through camping again in Kibish.
Day 13 – Kibish – Turmi
In the morning we will continue our journey back to Turmi Overnight in Buska Lodge.
Day 14 – Turmi – Jinka
After breakfast, we will visit the Hamer Village in the morning before we drive back to Jinka you will have lunch. Then drive to Jinka Airport departure time will be 1 pm in the middle of the day the flight takes 1 hour, fly back to Addis Ababa by the operator. Overnight in the Mosaic Hotel
Day 15 – Addis Ababa
Flying home. End of our Ethiopia Photo Tour.
