We have fun and we put you in the right places for getting great shots, with the right light. Our tuition is professional, practical and you will learn more about your personal level of photography with the expert guidance of David and Tim two award-winning professional photographers.
This combination tour takes you on a journey to two vastly different islands – Bali and Borneo, each of them beautiful and mystical in their own way.
Bali has volcanoes, ancient ceremonies, and stunning landscapes allowing you, the photographer to capture green lush rice fields and experience the friendly local Balinese people. Borneo is big and bold and bursting with wildlife. You will get to meet the beautiful orangutans, capture the magnificent Hornbill bird sweeping across the sky and experience indigenous tribal cultures, as we stop at small riverside villages and meet the Dayak people. David Metcalf’s long association with the Dayaks have allowed for a unique visit to a special village. The Dayaks love to meet foreigners and willingly engage with you, the photographer, allowing for some excellent portrait photography and a genuine exchange of cross-culture dialogue.
Tim Vollmer and David Metcalf are combining the highlights into a fantastic package of wonderful photo opportunities with action-packed adventures every day. Our tuition is professional, practical, and you will learn more about your personal level of photography with the expert guidance of these two award-winning photographers. Teaching and patience will be delivered. The art of story telling through your vision and what you capture is what you will receive.

Two vastly different islands
– BALI & BORNEO –
Each of them beautiful and mystical in their own way.
Volcanoes, ancient ceremonies and stunning landscapes allowing you, the photographer, to capture green lush rice fields and experience the friendly local Balinese people.
Big and bold and bursting with wildlife. You will get to meet the beautiful orangutans, capture the magnificent Hornbill bird sweeping across the sky and experience indigenous tribal cultures as we stop at small riverside villages and meet the Dayak people.
Day 1 – Sanur, Bali
Meet in Sanur 4 pm at Swiss Bel Hotel
Day 2 – Bali to Borneo
Fly to Palangkaraya at 0830 arrive around 12 noon. Board the Wow Borneo boat and cruise up the river.
Day 3 – Cruising on the Rungan river
on the Rungan river visting Dayak villages and photographing orang-utans . Overnight on the boat.
Visit Ransel Buku education project and dance performance from the children.
Day 4 – cruising on the river to Palangkaraya
Return from the boat at lunchtime, visit museum and special traditional dance performance from Spirit of the hornbills dance academy. This will be one of the highlights of the trip, as we will have around 30 dancers from different tribes perform for us in the forest. Many photo opportunities.
Day 5 – Palangkaraya
All day in Palangkaraya visting Ranu Welum, young Dayak activists, museum to learn about Dayak culture, plan to visit Sebangau NP to photograph wildlife and environment. Will visit old part of Palangkaraya on the river for portrait, people photography. Overnight Swiss Bel Hotel
Day 6 – Fly back to Bali
Fly back to Bali from Palangkaraya in the morning, photograph the opening of the Bali arts festival where thousands of Balinese from all over the island come to dance and dress up in amazing colourful uniforms. Stay overnight in Ubud
Day 7 – Kuningan day in Ubud
a day of special, colourful ceremonies, we will do sunrise shoot over the volcanos followed by attending ancient temples to photograph the ceremonies and cultural events. Overnight Ubud
Day 8 – Batur and Agung
Sunrise over Batur and Agung from Kintamani and then Lake Batur and villages in the area. Back to Hotel in Ubud early afternoon.
Day 9 – Maha Giri
Check out from Hotel Drive through Sideman to Maha Giri and Karangesem area for beautiful landscapes and tradtional villages. Overnight Maha Giri.
Day 10 – Bungaya
Sunrise shoot from Maha Giri then visit traditional villages for special Rajeng dance. Bungaya village Overnight Candi Dasa
Day 11 – Candi Dasa
Tour ends in Candi Dasa, about 2 hours from airport and 1- 1.5 hours from Ubud..

Tim has devoted his life to photography. Photography has been his long-held hobby and great passion. Tim has always felt himself drawn to the power and beauty he finds in nature. Tim has been leading photo tours and workshops in Iceland and many different countries over the years. He has had the world as his workplace. He is Photographing everything from the dramatic landscape in Iceland, to the native people in the remote corners of the world and the culture that are unique to each country. His journeys have taken him around the world in pursuit of memorable travel experiences and the creation of compelling images. His work has been featured in international publications. His images and stories are shared on various internet outlets. As a driven artist, professional, entrepreneur and an adventurer, Tim is eager to share his passion, knowledge in photography and travel through the tours he designed on his own, or through his partnership with professional photographers from around the globe. Tim and his family lived 11 years in Iceland. Now they are based in Czech Republic.
David Metcalf is a resident of Bali and has been travelling, writing and photographing throughout Indonesia for the past decade. David has held several exhibitions in Jakarta and Bali since 2002. He opened Taksu Photo Gallery in Ubud, Bali, in 2015 and uses the power of photography to educate and encourage positive social change.
David leads photography tours to Bali and Java, the USA, Myanmar, India and other destinations. He is involved in many projects in Kalimantan supporting Dayak culture and the environment.
